While on patrol early Tuesday morning, Portland police Sgt. Tim Farris captured a streaking meteor on his dashcam from Congress Street.
Farris posted the video on the Portland Maine Police Department Facebook page, and the clip already has over 45 thousand views in just several hours:
The video caught the eye of the American Meteor Society, who shared the video on their website, which created so much online traffic that it caused the site to crash this morning.
“The fireball was seen primarily from Maine but witnesses from Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Ontario (Canada) and Quebec (Canada) also reported the event,” said the society on their website.
