Smoke clouds from Canada passing over Maine today

This morning, the US National Weather Service’s Burlington, Vermont branch posted an interesting message on their Facebook page in regards to the devastating fire in Fort McMurray, Alberta this past week.

In the post, the Weather Service pointed out that the gray sky hovering over parts of New England today isn’t clouds, it’s smoke from the fire.

To put that into context, the distance from Fort McMurray to Maine is roughly 4,000 miles.
