Gunman reported in Bayside called “false alarm” by PPD

On Wednesday afternoon, a report was made to the Portland Police Department of a gunman in a home on Wilmot St. in Portland’s Bayside neighborhood.

The report turned out to be unfounded. According to Sergeant Charles Libby, who was nice enough to explain the situation to me over the phone, after receiving the call the PPD dispatched several officers who first called out the occupants of the home, then did a clean sweep of the house.

“It was then determined that the person who had originally called 9-1-1 had made a mistake,” said Libby.

Just another day in Maine’s most troubled neighborhood.
